What are the procedures for the transfer of aircraft?
The procedures and policy for the transfer of aircraft and equipment between aviation organisations can be found in each aircraft or equipment technical instruction.
What are effective aircraft?
Effective aircraft are those for which there is, or may be, a future Service requirement and which are held either against an Operating Fleet, Readiness Reserve or Long Term Reserve.
What are non-effective aircraft?
Non-effective aircraft are those for which there is no further Service requirement and whose disposal is coordinated by the Defence Equipment Sales Agency.
What is the aim of maintenance schedules for aircraft storage?
The aim of maintenance schedules is to ensure that aircraft maintained under storage conditions are given sufficient anti-deterioration maintenance to minimise the effort in recovering aircraft from each of the categories of reserve.
What principles should be adopted in maintenance for aircraft storage?
The principles are:
a. The prevention of structural, component and system deterioration.
b. The detection and rectification of faults arising from the storage environment.
What conditions must aircraft be stored in?
Aircraft must be stored in conditions that minimise the onset of metal corrosion, distortion of structure and materials, damage to fabrics and other forms of deterioration that might affect its airworthiness and reliability in flight.
What is the aim of aircraft storage?
The aim of storage is to preserve the aircraft and its components to enable its recovery to operational use in the minimum of time.
What factors determine the degree of environmental protection for stored aircraft?
The degree of environmental protection depends on the aircraft’s anticipated future use, the facilities and resources available for storage at the time, and the ability of the aircraft to withstand the elements.
What may be required in exceptional circumstances for aircraft storage?
In exceptional circumstances, it may be necessary to store aircraft in the open where special anti-deterioration treatment would be required.
