Cholesterol Flashcards
1
Q
how are lipids transported
A
2% (mostly FA) carried bound noncovalently to albumin but theres a limited capacity of 3mmol/L
98% of lipids are carried bound noncovalently to lipoprotein particles consiting of cholesterol, cholesterol esters, proteins, TAG
2
Q
total serum cholesterol?
A
<5mmol/L
3
Q
what are plasma lipoproteins
A
- complex that contain different lipids (cholesterol, cholesterol esters, TAG, phospholipids)
- membranes are phospholipid monolayer with small amounts of cholesterol
- associated with specific apolipoproteins ; which are intergral or peripheral.
- peripheral: apoC (binds to LPL on adipocytes and muscle) apoE (binds to LDL receptor on hepatocytes)
- intergral: apoA and apoB (apoB-48 added before entering lymphatic/apoB-100 added during fromationof apoC and apoE)
