FH - fractures, blue sclera, deafness
What are the features of supracondylar fractures?
Occur from falling onto outstretched hand
Can damage brachial artery and ulnar nerve
How are supracondylar fractures managed?
Reduce, use K wires & cast
Wires & cast removed after 4 weeks
How long do paediatric fractures take to heal?
UL - 4 weeks
LL - 6-8 weeks
Where are common paediatric fractures?
Wrist, buckle, clavicle, distal humerus, supracondylar
What are growth plates?
An area of cartilage that proliferates or enlarges
Leading edge calcifies
What can happen if the growth plate is injured?
Growth cessation
Deformity
What are greenstick fractures?
Cracked rather than completely broken bones
Child bones are softer and more flexible so can bend
