Whitling- 2 child family remains most common and has done for 70 yrs.
over half of all babies are born to mothers over 30.
Why are more ppl choosing not to have children?
women no longer obligated to bear children and create offspring. Don’t have to be restricted by children, can focus on career.
How does society view this decision not to have children?
society views women as nurturing caregivers, to see them pursue a career is unnatural and can be seen as “ruthless, career thirsty women”

What problems may this decision cause for the relationship”
people want different things in a relationship and therefore can cause conflict w-in relationship.
What is the life course?
made up of several stages, birth, early childhood, infancy, childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, adulthood, middle age, old age and death.
What does Heath say about the life course?
young ppl less likely to follow the traditional route of living at home, leaving school, going into job or higher education then settling down into married relationship in own homes.
What are adult kids and why more common today?
adults who are grown up and have a job but cannot be financially stable
more due to rising inflation- cost of living crisis.
What are “kippers” and why is there more today?
“Kids in parents pockets”
kids choosing not to establish full adult identity
often much cheaper and easier.
What is the clipped wing generation?
rising house prices and rent, combined w low average wage combined to create this generation unable to leave home despite being in paid work.
What are families of choice?
ppl choose to live and from relationship w a group of ppl whom they have closer relations w than birth family.
ppl now more separated from family and spend more time w friends so live w them.
What are shared households?
ppl living in households they share w peers, increase due to high cost of housing, growing numbers of ppl entering higher education.
