Parental Responsibility
A
Mothers automatically have parental responsibility. Only a court order removes these
Fathers if:
He was married to the mother at conception or thereafter
He has been given them by a court order
He has agreed rights and responsibilities registered legally
Not married but on birth certificate on or after 4th May 2006

Constable may remove a child to a place of safety if for 24hours
- Child being neglected
- treated in a way that is significant harm
- removal essential to protect from harm
- not practical to wait for a child protection order
