Nursing Considerations

A

1.) check for doctor’s order
2.) auscultate for breath sounds
3.) best time to perform PD:
a) before meal - to prevent aspiration
b) after meal - 2-3h
c) early in the morning
d) at bedtime
4) before performing PD give:
a) bronchodilators
b) nebulisation therapy
5) each position should be assumed for: 10-15 mins / 30 mins max - to prevent exhaustion
6) do the following: percuss, vibrate, repeat
• 1 - 2 mins only - minimum / each method
• 30 mins - maximum
7) after: perform ORAL CARE
8) auscultate for breath sounds: NORMAL - BRONCHOVESICULAR SOUND
