Chest Flashcards
Meconium aspiration
Term or post-term
Segmental/subsegmental atelectasis (ropy airspace opacities in the lung bases)
Hyperinflation
Pneumothorax (20-40%)
Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn
C-section/maternal sedation/diabetes Minor fissure fluid Interstitial edema, predominantly perihilar (perihilar streakiness) Small pleural effusions Peaks at 24 hours Resolve in 72 hours
Surfactant deficient disease (SDD)/RDS
Granular opacities Hypoinflation 35 week: pneumocyte production by type II pneumocyte Decreased lecythin:sphingomyelin ratio Bell shaped thorax
Neonatal pneumonia (GBS)
Hypoinflation
Consolidation
Neonatal pneumonia (non GBS)
Hyperinflation
Peristent pulmonary HTN
Engorged pulmonary vessels and airspace opacities
Respiratory dis
Surfactant therapy
Increased risk of pulmonary hemorrhage and PDA
Post-treatment: Bleb like lucencies.
Difference between GBS neonatal pneumonia vs NonGBS neonatal pneumonia
GBS neonatal pneumonia: Low lung volume, coarse opacities. Most common.
Non-GBS neonatal pneumonia: High lung volumes and pleural effusion.
