How to avoid extravasation
A
Give into a central line
Repeated dosing should have a cannula moved at regular intervals
Gtn patch distal to cannula
Report any pain or burning at site of injection immediately

What to do if extravasation occurs
A
Stop infusion and attempt to aspirate area
Give corticosteroids for inflammation
Antihistamines and analgesics for symptom relief

A
Go to A&E if neutrophil sepsis, do not take paracetamol without seeking advice
Maintain good oral hygiene to avoid mucositis
