chemical analysis Flashcards
flame test for lithim (Li+)
flame turns dark red
flame test for sodium (Na+)
yellow (remember banana)
flame test for pottasium (K+)
liliac
flame test for copper (cu2+)
blue- green
flame test for calcium (Ca2+)
orange-red
test for halides-
-dissolve substance in water
add nitric acid (HNO3)
-use silver nitrate
-forms precipitate (solid)
test for chlorine
-add silver nitrate- -Ag+ (aq)+(Cl-) –>(AgCl)
-forms white precipitate
test for bromide-Br-
add silver nitrite
forms cream precipitate
test for iodide
I-
use silver nitrate
forms yellow precipitate
test for a carbonate
use equation- acid +carbonate—> salt +water +carbon dioxide
add hydrochloric acid- look for effervescance
if everffescence bubble gas through limewater
bubbles= carbonate
test for sulfate
add hydrochloric acid and look for effervescence
if no effervescence -use barium nitrate or chloride
f-orms white precipitate
test for copper- cu2+
forms blue precipitate
positive ions-
-flame test
-warm, test gas produced
- sodium hydroxide forms precicipitate
test for iron- Fe2+
green precipitate
