CHEM NOTES TO KNOW Flashcards
What is the molecular formula for pyrrole?
c4H5N
what is the formula for Fluid pressure?
P = pgh
(p= density ; g= gravitational acceleration; h= height )
What are the conditions for STP ? AT STP, how many liters is 1 mole of gas?
STP : 1 atm and 0 degrees celsius
1 mole of gas = 22.4 L (or 2.24 x 10^4 cm^3)
What is a major characteristic of amino acid residues?
Amino acid residues DO NOT HAVE CHARGE
What occurs during proteolysis ?
The number of lower molecular weight bands increases with time (bottom); while the number of higher molecular weight bands diminishes over time
what is affinity chromatography?
A separation method based on a specific binding interaction between immobilized ligand and its binding partner
What is the function of detergents?
to isolate membrane proteins; by having a combination of large hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions
What is ki in kinetics?
Ki: the concentration of an inhibitor at which reaction rate is half of max reaction rate
What does a positive vs negative Hill coefficient suggest?
Hill coefficient of greater than 1 mean positive cooperative (substrate binds to somethings, makes it EASIER for others to bind.
negative coefficient (< 1) means negative cooperatively, make it DIFFICULT for others to bind
What is needed to form salt bridges between amino acid residues?
You need a positively charged side chain of one Amino acid and a Negatively charged side chain of another amino acid residue
What is needed for pi stacking interactions?
You need an amino acid residue with aromatic ring
What are the acidic amino acids and what charge do they have?
Acidic amino acids: glutamate and Aspartate
have positive charge
What are the Basic amino acids and what charge do they have?
Basic amino acids: Arginine, histidine, lysine)
have Negative charge
What is the formula for formal charge?
Formal charge = valance e- - sticks - lone pairs
What is the hybridization for Deuterium?
Deuterium is an isotope of hydrogen and 1s orbital. hence it is not hybridized. (just s for each deuterium atom)
