Q

What are the steps to the energy changes practical?

A
  1. Measure an amount of dilute HCl in and transfer this into a polystyrene cup with a polystyrene lid with a hole that the thermometer goes through.
  2. Record the initial temperature of the acid and then measure an amount of sodium hydroxide solution and transfer this into the cup.
  3. Gently stir with thermometer and record the greatest temperature reached on thermometer.
  4. Rinse out contents and repeat the experiment more times, increasing sodium hydroxide solution 5cm ³ each time until 40cm ³ has been done.
  5. Repeat whole experiment one more time to obtain to sets of values and record the mean value for each data set.
