Chem 1 - energy changes Flashcards
1
Q
What pH is the reaction at the end of the experiment?
A
7
2
Q
What are the steps to the energy changes practical?
A
- Measure an amount of dilute HCl in and transfer this into a polystyrene cup with a polystyrene lid with a hole that the thermometer goes through.
- Record the initial temperature of the acid and then measure an amount of sodium hydroxide solution and transfer this into the cup.
- Gently stir with thermometer and record the greatest temperature reached on thermometer.
- Rinse out contents and repeat the experiment more times, increasing sodium hydroxide solution 5cm ³ each time until 40cm ³ has been done.
- Repeat whole experiment one more time to obtain to sets of values and record the mean value for each data set.

Q
After the experiment ( energy changes ) what is done?
A
Plot the graph (indépendant on x and dependant on y)
