Checks Flashcards
What are the consequences of a broken alternator?
A flat battery
-The alternator alternates (duh) the battery connected to the engine.
How do you check the alternator’s drive-belt and how do you tighten/loosen it?
- It should just turn 90 degrees with fair resistance
- Tighten it by loosening the bolts and levering the alternator away to increase tension.
Why should the fuel tank be kept full?
To reduce condensation
Why should you check the shut-off valve just after chartering a boat?
Likely the owners have it shut-off, so the engine is isolated from the tank, and you will run out of fuel quickly.
Why check the pre-filter trap?
It separates water and dirt from the fuel. Check it with a torch to ensure water and dirt isn’t building up.
How often should the fine fuel filter be replaced?
Annually.

Screws that need to be undone to bleed the fuel of any air bubbles, by operating the lift pump.
What part of the cooling system may become damaged and needs to be replaced?
The Impeller.
-It has small arms that can break off easily. Always have a spare on board.

- Impeller
- Oil Filter
- Fine Fuel FIlter
