CHD AND ANTI-ANGINA AGENTS Flashcards
What is angina pectoris?
The symptoms of angina pain is the response to the reduced coronary blood flow in the heart
Associated with angina pain
What does the left coronary heart supply?
Supplies the left and right heart
What does the right coronary heart supply?
Supplies the SAN and AVN and the right heart which control the HR and involved in the propagation of excitation through the heart
How does venous blood return?
Via the RA via the doorway sinus and anterior cardiac vein
The heart chambers directly via thebesian veins
Presence of collateral vessels
What is the underlying cause of angina pectoris or stable angina?
Atheromatous disease of the coronary arteries
What is the main symptom of angina?
Chest pain - feeling tight, dull or heavy - although may have a sharp stabbing pain
Spreads to your left arm, neck, jaw or back
Stops within a few mins of resting can be triggered by exercise or stress
What are the other angina symptoms?
SOB
Feeling sick (nausea)
Pain in lower chest or belly
Feeling very tired
What are the therapeutic strategy for treatment of stable angina?
Reduce oxygen demand - reduce HR and cardiac preload
Increase oxygen supply - increase coronary blood flow - use drugs
Increase regional collateral blood flow
