- Beauty of holiness- decorated churches and stained glass. 2. Uniformity of worship through a prescribed liturgy. 3. Stress on obedience to authority and royal prerogative.

- Decorated and ornate churches with special vestments for minsters. 2. Communion table railed in the east end. 3. Short talks on how to behave. 4. Communion at the heart of services.

- No decorations or special vestments. 2. Communion table in the center. 3. Long sermons explaining the meaning of the Bible. 4. Infrequent communion.
What was the religious makeup of commons?
Most were low church, Calvinist and anti catholic, this resulted in divisions with Charles.
Give two events which increased religious divisions
- Sibthorpe’s defense of the forced loan. 2. The work of roger mainwaring who supported non parliamentary taxation, parliament had him impeached and imprisoned but Charles pardoned him.
What was the result of the York house conference?
1626- was an attempt to heal religious divisions. All it did was confirm the Arminians had Buckingham’s support and by extension, Charles’.
What was the religious situation like by 1629?
It was taking precede over all issues, mass was being celebrated in court and it seemed only logical to commons that Arminianism was just a step to Catholicism.
What had Charles hoped in 1625?
That he would work harmoniously with parliament, this was not the case, they hated his financial and religious policies and were not afraid to say so.
What happened to laud and Neil?
Charged with heterodoxy in 1629, but nothing came of it.
