Characteristics of Records Flashcards
What are the five characteristics of records?
Impartiality, Authenticity, Naturalness, Interrelatedness, Uniqueness
Impartiality
Not created for posterity but as a means of expressing action
Authenticity
contingent on the facts of creation, maintenance, and custody; can be presumed through time when legitimate, continuous, procedural custody can be shown
Naturalness
collected naturally in offices in creation of administrative purposes; not artificially assembled
Interrelatedness
Relationship of one record to another and to the action in which they participate gives meaning and evidentiary capacity
Uniqueness
Each record has a unique place and role in the structure of the fonds. Copies might exist but the context gives them meaning
