Ironic as they are not nice and well behaved to Eva smith and other lower class members of society

Shows how little he thinks of the working class and shows that he does not see them as individuals and sees them more as a group
“I don’t come into this suicide business”
Shows he wants to distance himself emotionally and wants to maintain his reputation and hide his affair. Reputation is more important than honesty
“The girl gave me a glance”
Wants to appear as the saviour who is nobly saved Eva smith. However in reality he is exploiting her vulnerability as a poor women to keep her as his mistress
“She knew it couldn’t last”
Shows that daisy knows that happiness is something that doesn’t happen in her life as a lower class women. Shows the separation between the different classes and how he only cares about his reputations so he must hide his affair
“Everything is alright now”
Unlike Eric and Shiela, Gerald has not changed and as a character has learnt no moral lesson and hasn’t changed his views. Shows that women were expected to be cheated on and should just accept it and how they were viewed as lower than men at the time
“I’m rathe more upset by this”
Shows that he is genuinely in distress but this does not last long as in the end he learns no moral lesson
“young and fresh”
is used to describe Daisy reanton. Shows that in a capatilistic and patriartical society it shows that people at the time had no respect towards women
