since the millennium development goals (MDG) ended in 2015, SDGs were created to address and combat the still existing global problems and challenges still present and raising (this is to be achieved by 2030)
- new global challenges had emerged and new goals were needed to be considered to specifically target these problems → these problems include climate change, increasing rate of conflict and economic financial instability
