Motivation
A need or desire that energiezes and directs other behavior
instinct
A complex behavior that is ridgidly patterened throughout a species and is unlearned

the idea that a pysicological need creates an arousd state that motivates to satisfy the need

the principle that performance increases with arousal only up to a point, beyond which performances decreases
hierarchy of needs
A maslow’s pyramid of human needs, begginging at the base with phsciological needs that must be first satisfied before fulfull their higher level safty needs and then psysciological needs
Glucose
the. form of sugar that circulates in the blood and orovides the major source of energy for body tissues. When level is low we feel hungry.
Set point
the point at which your “ weight thermostat” may be set. When your body falals below this wight increased hunger and a lower metabolix rat may combine to restore lost weight
basal metabolic rate
the bodys resting rate of energy output
obesity
defined as a body mass index (BMI) measurment od 30 or higher, which is calculated from our weight-to-height ratio
asexual
having no sexual attraction toward others
testosterone
the most important mal sex hormone. Both females and males have it but additional testosterone in males stimulates the growth of the male sex organs during fetal period and the development of the male sex characteristics during puberty
estrogens
sex hormones, such as estradiol that contribute to female sex characteristics and are secreted in greater amounts by females than males
sexual response cycle
The four stages of sexual responding decribed by masters and Johnson: excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution
refractory period
in human sexuality a resting period that occurs after orgasm during which a person can not orgasm again
sexual dysfunction
a problem that consitently impairs sexaul arousal and functioning at any point in the sexual response cycle
erecile disorder
Inability to develop or maintain an erection due to insufficient blood flow to the penis
female orgasmix disorder
distress due to infrequently or never experiencing orgasm
paraphias
sexual arousal from fantasisies , behaviors, or urges involving nonhuman objects, the suffering of sel or others and/or nonconsenting people
AIDS
A sexually tansmitted infections caused by HIV

the direction of our sexual attractions as reflected in out longings and fantasies

the need to build and maintain relationship and feel part of a group
self-determation theory
the theory that we feel motivated to satisfy our needs for completence autonomy and relatedeness
ostracism
deliberate social exclusion of individuals or groups
narcissism
excessive self-love and self-absorption
archeivement motivation
a desire for significant accomplishment for mastery of skills or ideas, for control, and for attaining a high standard
grit
in psychology passion and perseverance in the pursuit of long term goals
intrinsic motivation
a desire to perform a behavior effectively for its own sake
