Chapter 9 - Section 3: Flight deck information systems Flashcards
The type description of an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) will be decided by which two factors?
Hardware class and software type
What defines an EFB as a class 1 hardware type of item?
Items which are not connected to the aircraft for power or data
When are class 1 EFBs limited in their use?
Limited to certain phases of flight but may be used for more critical phases of flight to display type B software if they are securely mounted
What is required of class 2 EFBs?
Certification
What defines an EFB as a class 2 hardware type of item?
Can be a PED, like class 1, but are mounted and may use aircraft’s power and/or data
What defines an EFB as a class 3 hardware type of item?
Permanently installed and integrated into the aircraft systems
Subjected to airworthiness requirements
What normally delineates the type of software on an EFB as being type A, B or C?
Interactivity allowed by the software, with type A having the least
Define type C software for an EFB?
Can be used as a multifunction device (MFD) to control other systems
Subject to airworthiness requirements and must run on a class 3 EFB
