Chapter 8 - Section 4: ARINC 664 Part 7 (AFDX) Flashcards
What are the speeds associated with ARINC 664?
- 100 Mbit/s for normal operation
- 10 Mbit/s for safety critical systems
What is the minimum AFDX payload size?
17 bits
What does the AFDX consist of?
- Source and destination information
- Payload (information)
- Sequencing information
- Error checking information
What is the AFDX payload size?
Between 1 and 1471 bytes long
What is the purpose of the redundancy manager?
Duplicate the frame and place it on to 2 networks, network A and B, making a dual redundant network
What are the two types of messages?
- Implicit
- Explicit
Describe an implicit message?
- Do not carry any descriptive information
- Message is addressed with a specific port number to dedicated receive ports
Describe an explicit message?
- Decoding instructions are contained within the message
- Larger bandwidth is required for this package
What is used to allow full duplex capability?
Time Domain Multiplexing (TDM)
What does a bandwidth allocation gap (BAG) allow?
Determines how much space is between packets on a virtual link (VL)
Sum total of data on an individual VL cannot exceed the amount allocated to that VL, which also has to share the total bandwidth (10 or 100 Mbps) with all other VL
