Chapter 9: Respitory And Motor Systems Flashcards
Trace air into the lungs.
Nostrils/mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, the alveoli
What are the two ways oxygen is transported in the blood?
Oxygen is dissolved into blood, or it binds to hemoglobin to form (oxyhemoglobin)

Carbon dioxide dissolved in blood, carbonic acid is formed, or bond to hemoglobin (forms carbaminohemoglobin)
What is a sarcomere?
Where muscle sliding filament takes place.
What is the Z line?

What is the A band?
The length of one myosin.
What is myosin?
A very thick myofilament
What is actin?
A very thin myofilament
What is the H zone?
Where it is just myosin, no actin overlaps with it.
What is the I band?
Where it is just actin, no overlap with myosin.
What happens to the H zone when a muscle contracts?
It gets smaller
What happens to the I band when a muscle contracts?
It gets smaller
What happens to the Z lines when a muscle contracts?
They move closer together.
What does the naval cavity do?
It’s tiny hairs filter the air, and mucous traps particles and keeps the lining moist
Which part of the loop of Henle is closer to the glomerulus?
