Deindividuation
the tendency to not follow normal rules of behaviours as a result of losing one’s self-awareness
Anonymity (deindivduation)
Becoming anonymous in a crowd, individuals less distinguishable. uniforms or face painted/covered
Accountability (deindividuation)
(or lack of it) people are less likely to be identified therefore they do not have to take responsibility for one action
Decrease in Self-Awareness(deindividuation)
less sense of themselves as distinct individuals, less focus on matching their behaviour to their normal standards
Zimbardo Prison Experiement
Result: Participants identified with the roles they were given; guards acted aggressively and prisoners became submissive. Terminated after 6 days.
Social Identity Theory
The theory that posits that each person strives to enhance their self-esteem, which is composed of two parts personal identity and social identity. Associated with successful groups to increase feelings of self-worth.
