Pro-Social Behaviour
Any behaviour that has the goal of helping another person
Altruism
helping with expectation of personal gain
Kinship selection
the idea that we’re likely to help those we are genetically related to. More altruistically toward people who could potentially reproduce and pass on their own genes, closer relation helping over further relations, younger vs older/unwell.
Diffusion of responsibility
the belief that other people present in a situation will assume responsibility, which contribute to the bystander effect
Bystander Effect
he situation whereby people are less likely to help in emergency situations when there are other people present if the person who could help is alone, resulting in a decreased likelihood of help being given
Urban Overload Hypothesis
the hypothesis that people who live in urban areas are constantly exposed to stimulation, which in turn leads then to a decrease their awareness of their environment
Empathy-Altruism Hypothesis
the idea that when we feel empathy for a person, we will help that person even is we incur a cost in doing so
Norm of Reciprocity
he idea that we should help those who are in need of assistance because they then will help us in the future.
