Bulimia Nervosa
— Eating disorder involving recurrent episodes of uncontrolled excessive (binge)eating followed by compensatory actions to remove the food (vomiting, laxatives, excessive exercise)
— more common than anorexia, one of the most common disorders on university campuses.
Anorexia Nervosa
Eating disorder characterized by recurrent food refusal leading to dangerously low body weight.
Binges
Relatively brief episodes of uncontrolled, excessive consumption, usually of food or alcohol
Binge eating disorder (BED)
Pattern of eating involving distress inducing binges not followed by purging behaviours
Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)
— Involves a lack of interest in eating food, oversensitivity to certain aspects of food, or concerns about consequences of eating.
— usually detected in infants and children and may persist in adulthood
