IACS known as the international association of classification societies. A non governmental organisation in the shipping industry who maintain and establish the technical standards for the design and construction of ships. Also recognised as a technical advisor to IMO.

What is IMO?
IMO is the International maritime organisation. They are the global standard setting authority responsible for the safety and security in shipping and prevents the marine and atmospheric pollution by ships.
What are the organisations supporting the tanker industry?
Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF)
OCIMF is a voluntary association of oil companies with an interest in the shipment and terminalling of crude oil, oil products, petrochemicals and gas. Focus on preventing harm to people and the environment by promoting best practices.
International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO)
INTERTANKO is a trade association that represents the voice of independent tanker owners at national, regional and international levels. They develop the best practices in the tanker industry.
