Chapter 9 Cellular Respiration and Fermentation Flashcards
What is ATP
Energy created from the cell to do things like muscle contraction and cell synthesis
What is cellular respiration?
metabolic processes that result in the cell breaking down molecules to get energy in the form of ATP
What is the chemical equation for Cellular Respiration?
C6O1206 + 6CO2 + 6H20 + Energy
What are the 4 stages of cellular respiration in cells?
Glycolysis, pyruvate processing, citric acid cycle/ krebs cycle, electron transport train
What happens in Glycolysis?
Break down of glucose to 2 pyruvates
What happens in Pyruvate Processing
Pyruvate and coenzyme A combine to form acely-coa
What happens in Kreb’s cycle?
degradation fo remaining glucose carbons
What is the role of the electron transport train?
Get ATP/ Energy
What role does oxygen play in cellular respiration?
the final electron acceptor, bonds with H to make water
how does fermentation occur?
When oxygen isnt present, occurs after glycolysis
what waste products that pyruvate is converted to?
latic acid, ethanol, various organic molecules
