Ch. 11 Cell cycle (Mitosis) Flashcards
How does Binary Fission occur?
chromosomes duplicate, movement, and the pinching of the plasma membrane until there is 2 cells. Occurs in Prokaryotic cells
What is G0 phase
Cell leaves the cycle and quits dividing. could be temporary or permanent
what occurs during G1
Time between end of M phase and beginning of S phase. cell growth and maturation, carrying out tasks, organelle replication, beginning of cell
what is S phase?
Chromosomes replicated, remains attached to the parent chromosome
what is G2 phase?
chromosomes condense, microtubules formed
what is the spindle apparatus?
Microtubule network form that are used to separate sister chromatids from daughter cells.
Prophase
chromosomes clearly visible, rRNA synthesis stops, centrioles begin to move to the poles
metaphase
centrosomes complete migration to poles, aligned at the metaphase plate, centromere split
anaphase
microtubules are shortened, spindle apparatus is disassembled at chromatid end, pull chromosomes closer to poles
Telophase
spindle apparatus disassembly is completed, nuclear envelope reforms, chromosomes uncoil to chromatin, rRNA synthesis resumes
Cytokinesis
cytoplasm division
