22
Q

The Fredonian Rebellion

A

-The Fredonian Rebellion had a small number of supporters. Haden Edwards land grant was cancelled because of the angered people living on the land (Nacogdoches) that he owned. Edwards supporters shortly declared themselves the REPUBLIC OF FREDONIA. Mexico sent troops down to fight the republic, but the supporters were long gone when Mexico got to where the Fredonians were hiding out. This could be seen as a minor, or major event.

23
Q

The Mier y Teran Report

A

-This report was made to counteract the growing Anglo American population in Texas. They needed to make other ethnicities more prominent in the area. This report fueled the making of the Law of April 6, 1830.

24
Q

The Law of April 6, 1830

A

-This law was based on the Mier y Teran report; Mexico used the recommendations on the report. The law prohibited slavery, which damaged the Texas economy, and put taxes or duties on foreign imported goods. This law angered many Texans and was one of the sparking points for the upcoming war.

25
Q

The Battle of Anahuac

A

-This battle occurred after John Davis Bradburn arrested two Texan citizens for interfering with the tax collection on foreign goods. A group of citizens rebelled and marched on the Mexican fort of Anahuac. There were a few skirmishes and finally the prisoners were released.

26
Q

Turtle Bayou Resolutions

A

-These resolutions were written on June 13,1832 at a convention with the Texan officials. They included Texas, maybe becoming a separate state. However, these resolutions were never delivered that year. The next year in the Convention of 1833 they were delivered.

27
Q

The Convention of 1833

A

-During this convention most of the Turtle Bayou Resolutions were coming up, including Texas getting its own state constitution. Sam Houston was elected to present these propositions to the Mexican government, but Stephen F. Austin was the final choice because of his relationship with the Mexican government.

28
Q

Stephen F. Austins arrest

A

-Austin was waiting for a response from the Mexican government about the resolutions, but they never came. Austin then wrote a letter to San Antonio officials suggesting that they form a temporary state government. This letter was intercepted and Austin was thrown in jail for one year. This angered Texans deeply, and was a huge reason for the war. Austin also supported the war with Mexico.
