Chapter 9 Flashcards
Skeletal Muscle
attach to bone
voluntary
an organ
Skeletal Muscle consist of:
skeletal muscle tissue
nervous tissue- impulse
blood- oxygen/nutrients
connective tissue
Fascia
sheet of dense C.T that encloses muscle
Tendon
cord of dense C.T that connects muscle to bone
Aponeuroses
sheet of C.T that connects muscle to muscle and/or bone
Epimysium
surrounds whole muscle
Perimysium
surrounds fascicles within a muscle (fascicles- bundles of muscle fibers)
Endomysium
surrounds muscle fibers (cells)
Sarcolemma
cell membrane
Sarcoplasm
cytoplasm
Myofibrils
thread like filaments in muscles
Sarcomeres
unit of muscles
Sarcoplasmic Reticulum
membranous network of channels and tubules in a muscle fiber (contains calcium ions)
Transverse Tubule
transport calcium ions
Think Filaments (myofibrils)
composed of myosin protein
