Individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal

Emerges from group to take charge

Flexibility, patience, integrity, any trait that brings good morality
Democratic
Athlete centered, cooperative, relationship oriented - allows athletes to participate in goal setting
Autocratic
Win oriented, task oriented, tightly structured - makes decisions independently
Autocratic consultative
Consultative style obtains into from relative players then comes to a decision
Consultative individual style
Individually consults players then makes decisions - input may not be used
Consultative group
Consults players as group then makes decision
Group style
Shares problem with group - group makes decisions
Multidimensional model of sport leadership
Leader effectiveness can vary depending on the characteristics of the athlete and constraints of the situation
