Chapter 9 Flashcards
Geometric mean
The geometric mean of two numbers a and B is the positive number X such that
2/x = x/b
In a right triangle, the length of the altitude from the right. And go to the hypotenuse is the
Geometric mean of the links of the two segments to the hypotenuse
In a right triangle, the altitude from the right angle to the hypotenuse
Divides the hypotenuse into two segments. Each leg of the original right triangle or biggest right triangle is the geometric mean of the hypotenuse end of the segment of the hypotenuse that is adjacent to the leg
The Pythagorean theorem
In a right triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the lengths of the legs.
Pythagorean Triple
To set of positive integers that satisfy the equation
A2 + B2 = C2
Converse of the Pythagorean thm
If the square of the length of the longest side of a triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the length of the two shorter sides, then the triangle is a right triangle
If the square of the length of the longest side of a triangle is less than the sum of the squares of the Lankes of those two shorter sides
Then the triangle is acute
The square of the length of the longest sides of a triangle is greater than the sum of the squares of the Lankes of the two shorter sides
Then the triangle is obtuse
If the altitude is drawn to the hypotenuse of a right triangle,
Then the two triangles formed are similar to the original triangle and each other
