Q

Bacteria

A

Unicellular, but some stick together in colonies
Prokaryotic
Lack membranes bound internal structures , no vacuoles, mitochondria or chloroplasts

Q

What is a virus

A

Lifeless particles that carries out no metabolic functions on its own , and cannot reproduce on its own
But… Capable of reproduction once it invades
Occupy a position between living and no living matter

Q

Viral replication

A

LYTIC CYCLE
- Process by which virus and its genetic material are duplicated before cell division
LYSOGENIC CYCLE
- Dormant phase of the virus
-virus coexist with cell
- Instead of hijacking cell and taking control, it’d nucleic acid becomes integrated into bacteriums DNA

Q

Archaebacteria

A

1) Thermophiles:
- Live in extremely hot environments
2) Methanogens
- Grow on CO2 and hydrogen gas to produce methane
- Found in volcanic deep sea environments, intestines of mammals
3) Halophiles
- Live in extremely saline environments
- Found in salt flats, evaporation

Q

How are viruses like cellular organism? How are they different
