Chapter 9 Flashcards
Define production
Creating finished goods by using factors production
Define production management
services that help a firm with its production
Define operations management
A specialized area in management that converts or transforms resources (including human resources) into goods and services.
Ops management in the service industry is all about
creating good experiences for those who use it.
What are the three parts to the production process
Inputs (factors of production).
Production Control (planning, scheduling, etc)
Outputs (goods, services, ideas)
Define form Utility
The value producers add to materials in the creation of finished goods and services.
What are the three requirements of production
Build a product that meets demands of service
Provide it at a high quality
Provide it at the lowest possible price
Define process manufacturing
hat part of the production process that physically or chemically changes materials.
What is a continuous process
A production process in which long production runs turn out finished goods over time.
What is the interminent process
A production process in which the production run is short and the machines are changed frequently to make different products.
Using computers to design products is called
Computer Assisted Design (CAD)
The use of computers in the manufacturing process in called
Computer Assisted manufacturing (CAM)
What is Computer Integrated manufacturing?
CID, the combination of CAD and CAM to control the whole manufacturing process.
What is flexible manufacturing
When machines are designed to do serveral task so they can make a variety of products.
What is Lean Manufacturing
Manufacturing using less of everything. Less humans, less space, less engineering, etc.
