Chapter 8 - The Children Of Promise Flashcards
“Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. For this was how the promise was stated: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.” Not only that, but Rebekah’s children were conceived at the same time by our father Isaac. Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election might stand: not by works but by him who calls—she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.””
Romans 9:7-13
Who are the children of promise?
Those to whom the promise was given through the prophesies before their birth.
“But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.””

“The Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.””
Genesis 25:23

Revelation 12:17
““Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me”? And what was God’s answer to him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.”
Romans 11:3-5
Some say the rest of the woman’s offspring in Rev 12:17 indicate the 7th day Adventist church. What two verses do they use to support their claim?

“The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy.”
However- it is the apostles that received this
What is the testimony of Jesus?
The HS the apostles received on the Day of Pentecost
What verse shows the origin of the woman in Rev 12:17?
Ge 3:15
Why was Jesus prophesied to be the offspring of a woman and not a man?
Because Jesus was conceived by the HS and born of a woman without a husband.
““Sing, barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the Lord.”
Isaiah 54:1
How did Apostle Paul interpret Isaiah 54:1?
Only those born of the Spirit can be God’s children and be saved (Gal 4:27-29).
“She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.”

The church of God fulfills Revelation 12:17- “obey Gods commands and remain faithful to the testimony of Jesus.” How?
The church that obeys Gods commands is the one that fulfills the mission of Elijah by completely restoring the New Covenant, once broken, beginning with the 1st commandment, the Passover. And those who hold to the testimony are those who receive the HS that testifies about Jesus
““When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.”
John 15:26
What verse shows the HS enables us to speak the words of God?
Acts 2:4
