Chapter 4 - The Tree Of Life And The Ten Commandments Flashcards
Prove how the 10 Commandments are the Tree of Life.
There were 2 cherubim placed on both ends of the mercy seat on top of the ark of the covenant. This means the TOL leading to eternal life was in the ark. The 10 Commandments were given instead of the TOL. That’s why Jesus said, “If you want to enter life, obey the commandments” (Mt 19:16:17).
Also, if someone approaches the ark with unclean hands they were put to death, just like the TOL in heaven
““Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.”
Revelation 22:14
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,”
Hebrews 10:19-20
“I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”
Revelation 7:14
As seen in the way to enter the Most Holy Place, no one can enter the Tree of Life in heaven by his own righteousness, but only through the blood of Jesus. What 3 verses can you use to explain this?
Hebrews 10:19-20
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,”
Revelation 22:14
““Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.” (Here, approaching the TOL is clearly seen through the entrance into the Most Holy Place)
Revelation 7:14
“I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”
No matter how righteous someone is, he can never enter eternal life unless he is purified by the precious blood of Christ.
How do you that you cannot enter heaven merely by keeping the Sabbath or by eating only vegetables?
Adam and Eve never violated the Sabbath nor are meat yet they were still driven out from the Garden of Eden and deprived of the fruit from the TOL.
Some insist that they can enter eternal life just by keeping the 10 commandments. Why are they greatly mistaken? (Example using Jesus)
Matthew 19:16-22
“Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “ ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.”
In conclusion, it was a sin not to believe in Jesus rather than not to keep the commandments.
Some insist that they can enter eternal life just by keeping the 10 commandments. Why are they greatly mistaken? (Example using Apostle Paul)
A. Paul said he was faultless with respect to legalistic righteousness (Php 3:6-9). However, he wrote to the Romans, “death reigned over those who did not sin by breaking a command…” (Rom 5:14) and he also wrote no one would be declared righteous by observing the 10 commandments. (Ro 3:19-20, Gal 2:16)
“Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.”
Romans 3:31
We should not violate the 10 Commandments but complete the righteousness of them with overflowing joy
