Chapter 8: Schedule Flashcards

Q

C8 Schedule: Terms and terminology

A
  • Lag - waiting time between activities.
  • Lead - показывает, что активность может стартовать befiore its predecessor is completed, в параллель.
  • Path convergence (схождение) - activity has 2+ предшествующих активности
  • Path divergence (расхождение) - activity has 2+ последующих активности.
  • Slack = Float

Q

Network diagram

A
  • If is made calendar-based - становится “schedule network diagram”

Q

Precendence Diagramming Method (PDM)

A

Boxes to represent activities and arrows to show dependencies

Также называется “activity on node (AON) method”

Q

Types of Dependencies

A

  • Mandatory (=Hard logic), has to work that order.
  • Discretionary (=preferred, preferential, soft logic) -

  • Internal - internal to the project and something the project team can control

Methods for Estimating Activity Durations

A

Chapter 3 “Estimating methods”

Predictive estimating

  • Analogous (top-down)
  • Bottom-up
  • Parametric
    • Regression Analysis (Scatter Diagram)
    • Learning Curve (by example)
  • Single-point E (One-point Estimating)
  • Three-Point E
    • Triangular Distribution (Simple Average)
    • Beta Distribution (Weighted Average)

Adaptive estimating

  • Affinity
  • T-shirt Sizing
  • Planning Poker

Q

Schedule Network Analysis

A

Создаем schedule model, until the proj schedule is approved

Critical Path Method

  • Free float
The amount of time an activity can be delayed without delaying the next activity’s ES date.
  • Total float
The amount of time an activity can be delayed without delaying the proj end date. LS-ES or LF-EF !!!
  • Project float (=positive total float)
This is the total time the project can be delayed
  • Forward / backward pass

Q

Methods for Schedule Compression

A

Develop Schedule (Planning), Control Schedule, Integrated Change Control

  • Reduce risks (best option?) - investigate activity estimates that contain the most unknowns. Reduce or eliminate these risks thus decreasing the schedule.
  • Fast tracking
Allows project phases to overlap. Минусы: rework, increases risk, more attention to communication
  • Crashing
Adding resources to reduce the project duration. Crashing adds costs (and may add risks) to the project.
  • Cut quality - might add risk
  • Reduce scope - impact on customer
  • Work overtime - LAST RESORT
  • Say it can’t be done -
  • Leads and Lags - тоже compression method, как указано на p.223

Q

Plan-driven schedule representation

A
  • Network diagram - если надо показать interdependencies, посчитать critical path, show length of the project
  • Milestone chart - если надо report to senior management
  • Bar chart - weak planning, but effective to track progress, report to the team

Q

Methods for Control Schedule

A
  • Measurement
    • For plan-driven: EVM
    • Change-driven: velocity, burnup/down charts
