Chapter 8 Photosynthesis Flashcards
Heterotrophs
3
Consumers
Animals and other organisms
Obtain energy from food consume
Autotrophs
3
Producers
Plants and some other organisms
Produce own food
ATP
3
Adenosine triphosphate
Adenine. Ribose. 3 phosphates
group
Energy storing compound
When is energy released…
When the end phosphate bond is broken
ADP
Adenine diphosphate
2 phosphate groups
How to reenergize
Reattach a phosphate to ADP to make ATP
Photosynthesis equation
6CO2 + 6H2O —> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Also need chlorophyll and sunlight
Types of chlorophyll
5
Chlorophyll A Chlorophyll B Xanthophyll Carotene Anthocyanin
Process of light dependent reaction
Sunlight from the sun goes in photosystem 2 (grana) sent to photosystem 1.
H2O enters plant. Molecule is split into H2 and O. O is released and H2 goes into photosystem 1. High energy electron is used to energize ADP sent to calvin cycle. NADP picks up H molecule sends to Calvin cycle
The Calvin Cycle
6CO2 brought in and is combined with the 6 5-c already in the cycle. Energized with ATP and NADPH from light dependent. 2 3-C are split off for glucose. 10 3-C is sent back to beginning and converted into 6 5-C
Factors affecting photosynthesis
Amount of water
Temperature
Intensity of light
