nothing by mouth - no food or drink

difficulty swalling
aspiration
inhaling food, fluid, or foreign material into the lungs
parenteral nutrition (PN)
a solultion of nutrients goes directly into the blood stream
nasogastric tube
tube inserted into the nose and goes to the stomach
percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy (PEG) Tube
a tube that is placed into the stomach through the abdominal wall
gastronomy
the surgically created opening into the stomach that allows the insertion of a tube
