Confusion
Inability to think clearly
Delirium
State of severe confusion that occurs suddenly
Cognition
Ability to think logically and clearly
Cognitive impairment
when some of the cognitive ability is lost
Dementia
General term that refers to a serious loss of mental abilities such as thinking, remember, reasoning and communicating
Alzheimer’s Disease (AD)
causes tangled nerve fibers and protein deposits to form in the brain - cause dementia
Perservation
Repeating of words, phrases, questions or actions
Agitation
someone who is excited, restless, or troubled
Sundowning
someone who gets restless in the late afternoon; usually from fatigue or hunger
Catastrophic reaction
when someone overreacts to something
Violent Behavior
Someone who attacks, hits or threatens someone else with violence
Pacing
walking back and forth in the same area
Wandering
walking aimlessly
Hallucinations
things that aren’t there
delusions
something believed to be true, but is not true
