Chapter 8 - Mole Flashcards
Formula for mole (when mass of s,l,g is involved)
Mole = mass divided by Ar/MR
Formula for mole (when volume of g is involved )
Mole = volume divided by 24dm3
Formula for concentration (mol/dm3) - derive from formula
Concentration is mole divided by volume
Formula for concentration (g/dm3) - derive from formula
Concentration = mass divided by volume
Formula for concentration (mol/dm3) from g/dm3
Concentration (mol/dm3) = concentration (g/dm3) divided by Mr
Cm3 to dm3
Divide by 1000
Mol/dm3 to g/dm3
Times Mr
Formula for Density (g/dm3) - to find density of g
Mr divided by 24dm3
Formula for density (g/dm3) - when density of liquid is asked for
Mr divided by volume
Element (Mg)
Mg = 24
Element (O2)
16 times 2 = 32
Simple molecular -2 carbon dioxide(co2)
2 CO2 = 12 + (2 times 12)
Din tends to care about the number at front
Ionic- 2 cuco3 (copper carbonate)
2 CuCO3 = 64 + 12 + (16 times 3)
Can ignore the two in the front
Define relative atomic mass
Average mass of one ATOM of substance compared with 1/12 mass of one atom of carbon-12
Define relative molecular mass
Average mass of one MOLECULE of the substance compared with 1/12 mass of one atom of carbon-12
Define mole
Amount of substance that contains 6times 10 to the power of 23 particles
Define Avogadro constant
6 times 10 to the power of 23
Define molar mass
Mas of one mole of any substance(g/mol)
Define molar volume
Volume of 24dm3 that one mole of any gas occupies at room temperature and pressure
What is meant by concentration of a solution
Concentration of a solution is given by the amount of solute dissolved in a unit volume of the solution
What is meant by a solution of 1mol/dm3
The solution has one mole of solute dissolved in 1dm3 of solution
Define limiting reactant
Reactant that is completely used up in a reaction
Define excess reactant
Reactant that is added in excess and is left unreacted
