Does a solar eclipse occur at day or night?
Day.
Does a lunar eclipse occur at day or night?
Night.
Where can you see a solar eclipse?
Only in the path of totality.
Where can you see a lunar eclipse?

Only for roughly 15 minutes.
For how long can you see a lunar eclipse?
A few hours (4-5hrs).
What is the location of the sun, moon and earth from left to right in a solar eclipse?

In a Solar Eclipse, what is a total eclipse?
When the Moon and the Sun are perfectly align, The moon totally blocks the light from the sun.
In a Solar Eclipse, what is an annular eclipse?

In a Solar Eclipse, what is a partial eclipse?
The moon’s orbit does not completely block the Sun, but rather will block a portion of the light from reaching the earth.
True or False you can see a solar eclipse well outside of the path of totality?
False.
What is a shadow on the Earth called? What is the shadow called when its on the earth? To each side of the umbra is called, what?
An umbra. The path of totality. The penumbra.
Why does the moon not have a solar eclipse every 28 days (one orbit)?
Because the moon’s orbit is at a 5° angle which makes it rare for the moon to align directly between the Sun and Earth.
What are the three phases of a lunar eclipse? (Learn this flashcard through phases, don’t try to remember all three at once, just learn the first then so on).
- Penumbral phase - the moon begins to enter Earth’s shadow, with a slight shading on the outer edge of moon.
- Partial Phase - The moon enters the Earth’s umbra; a portion of the moon becomes visibly darker.
- Total phase - the whole face of the moon is covered by the Earth’s shadow, and the moon appears red, orange, and copper.
True or False, blue and green hues of light are bent inwards to earth and red and orange hues are bent outwards?
False.
