Chapter 8 - Fire Protection Flashcards
Pulling the engine fire warning switch up:
a. closes both the engine fuel shutoff valve and the spar fuel shutoff valve.
b. deactivates related engine driven hydraulic pump LOW PRESS light.
c. closes the hydraulic fluid shutoff valve and disables the thrust reverser for the related engine.
Some of the indications for an engine fire are the MASTER CAUTION lights, the ENG OVERHEAT light, the Master FIRE WARN light, and the red fire switch light illuminate.
What are the other indications?
a. The fire warning BELL sounds.
b. The red FIRE switch light illuminates.
c. The OVHT/DET system annunciator light illuminates.
(6 lights and a bell).
Fire extinguishers provide a means of extinguishing:
- Cargo Compartment fires.
- Lavatories and
- Engine,
- APU
(Fire extinguishers CLEA the air).
Illumination of the APU DET INOP light indicates
no fire protection, do not start the APU
Placing the TEST switch in the FAULT/INOP position test:
the fault detection circuits for both engines and the APU
Engine fire detection requires:
both detection loops must sense a fire or overheat condition.
Pulling up the APU fire warning switch
a. closes the APU air inlet doors.
b. trips the generator control relay and generator circuit breaker, arms the associated
extinguisher and closes the bleed air valve.
c. closes the fuel shutoff valve and the APU inlet door, and allows the APU FIRE
WARNING switch to be rotated.
d. all the answers are correct.
The power source for engine fire extinguishing is:
a. Transfer Bus.
b. the switched battery bus.
c. the hot battery bus.
d. None of the above is correct.
Prior to performing the Fire / Overheat warning test with the APU operating:
ground personnel should be notified
The illumination of the Engine / Overheat Detector Fault light:
indicates that that both loops on an engine have failed
What form of fire detection and protection is offered?
- Engines, APU and main wheel well: overheat and fire detection.
Engines and APU: Fire protection
The FIRE WARNING lights and Fire Warning Bell can be cancelled by:
Pressing the FIRE WARNING SWITCH or pressing the BELL CUTOUT switch.
The FIRE WARNING lights illuminate when:
The engine or APU fire switch illuminates.
The MASTER CAUTION lights illuminate when:
The amber ENG OVERHEAT or APU DET INOP lights illuminate
When a malfunction is detected in a fire loop:
The fault monitoring system automatically deselects a bad loop, resulting in a single loop system.
