Avalanche
The grinding and wearing away of rock surfaces
through the mechanical action of other rock or sand particles.
Abrasion
A bowl-shaped hollow eroded by a glacier.
Cirque
A large ice sheet that covers a continent.
Continental Glacier
The slow downhill movement of weathered rock material.
Creep
Erosion of soil as a consequence of sand and dust and loose rocks being removed by the wind.
Deflation
A long mound of till that is smoothed in the direction of the glacier’s flow.
Drumlin
A hill or ridge of sand piled up by the wind.
Dune
Long ridge of material deposited by a meltwater stream flowing beneath a glacier.
Esker
A large sheet or stream of ice formed in an area where the temperature remains below or near freezing and more snow accumulates in winter than melts in summer.
Glacier
A side valley at a higher elevation above a u- shaped valley.
Hanging Valley
Glaciers carve away the sides of a mountain resulting in a peak.
Horn
Cone shaped deposit of sediment from a glacier.
Kame
A bowl-shaped depression that was formed by a a glacier and then became filled with water.
Kettle Lake
The sudden movement of rock and soil down a slope.
