Outdoor activities that present the participant with risk and challenge.
Adventure Tourism
The maximum number of people who can use the site with only acceptable alterations to the physical environment and with only acceptable decline in the quality of the experience gained by subsequent visitors.
Carrying Capacity
Land that is publicly owned and controlled by the government.
Crown Land
Responsible travel aimed at learning more about the environment; focuses on nature-related experiences that help people appreciate and understand our natural resources and their conservation.
Ecotourism
A person who believes in responsible travel to natural areas and who aids in conserving the local environment.
Ecotourist
Created twenty years ago, a commitment to solve Canada’s complex environmental challenges and implement sustainable economic development.
Green Plan
Tourism activities that often take place in an unusual, exotic, or remote setting, requiring pre-training, a high level of physical activity, risk, and may require specialized equipment
Hard Adventure
A type of camping in which every item carried in is carried out; every item created on they rip is carried out; enclosed fires and biodegradable products are used; no souvenirs are taken from the area; and the area is left virtually untouched and ready for the next group of adventurers
Low Impact Camping
Activities that take place outdoors. Such as hiking, backpacking, canoeing, sailing, kayaking, bicycling, horseback riding….
Outdoor Recreation
A tourism product that is both sustainable and ecologically sound
Responsible Tourism
Outdoor activities designed to give participants the thrill of hard adventure without the risk. These activities require no pre-training, are usually less strenuous and Amy equipment needed is supplied by the operator
Soft Adventure Tourism
When tourism development and operations meet the needs of current tourists and host regions, while protecting and enhancing opportunities for the future
