A high speed Japanese train.
Bullet Train
Guests of a hotel that have reservations at one hotel, but are moved to another hotel because the original hotel took too many reservations. Also known as ‘walked’.
Bumped
A bus, plane, or ship rented for the purpose of transporting people from one location to another, usually at rates lower than regularly scheduled rates.
Charter
A type of round trip in which the routes taken to and from the destination differ.
Circle Trip
Reduced rates designed to encourage sales to companies.
Corporate Rate
A flight that carries a traveller from one destination to another, making at least one stop along the route.
Direct Flight
Electronic version of paper ticket
E-ticket
A discounted rail pass allowing travel by train. Certain restrictions apply. Must be purchased outside Europe. May also include other forms of transportation, such as ferry service, buses, etc. in seventeen European countries.
Eurail Pass
A tour that combines airfare with an escorted bus tour.
Fly/Coach Tours
Airport from which major international flights arrive/depart
Gateway Airport
A pattern of transportation in which an airline uses one airport as the collecting point for incoming and outgoing flights. This system is also used in the motor coach industry.
Hub and Spoke
Air travel between two destinations during which the traveller is forced to change airline companies in order to complete the journey.
Interline Connection
Fee charged by an airport to an airline for the right to land and use airport services.
Landing Fee
The percentage of seats filled on an airplane by paying or revenue-producing passengers.
Load Factor
A bus tour that lasts from three to thirty days and includes one or more of these four components: accommodations, meals, attractions, sightseeing.
Motorcoach Package
air travel between two destinations during which the traveller is forced to change aircraft but not airline in order to complete journey
Online Connection
A type of air travel in which travellers can fly to one city but return from a different city
Open Jaw Trip
A airline routing that originated in a city, goes to a destination, and returns to the original city.
Round Trip
A bus tour that lasts less then 24 hours and has no accommodation arrangements, usually in one specific region
Sightseeing/day tours
A cruise that focuses on a specific topic of interest, usually from an educational standpoint, such as ecotourism, history, or opera
Special interest cruise
A cruise that focuses on a particular even or topic of interest (e.g., Super Bowl cruise, rock and roll cruise); also called a special- interest cruise.
Theme cruise
A car retail package that charges travelers a flat fee regardless of distance driven
