What did Christopher Columbus accomplish?
He discovered the continent of North America, but at the time he believed he had reached India and refused to have the continent named after him because he didn’t believe it to be a new discovery.
What did Ferdinand Magellan accomplish?
He proved the earth to be round, he was the first one the circumnavigate the world.
Describe the caravel type of ship.
The caravel was clinker built with triangular shaped lateen sails. It was invented by the Portuguese.

1) The compass
2) The astrolabe and quadrant.
Give an example of an exploration rivalry.
Spain and Portugal.

1) Spain and Portugal became very wealthy.
2) Native civilisations were destroyed, millions were enslaved.
3) New good from the New World were introduced in Europe. (Chocolate, tobacco…)

He was a famous conquistador who defeated the Aztecs and claimed Mexico for Spain.
