Chapter 8 Flashcards
What’s the difference between scalars and vectors?
A scalar has no direction whereas a vector does.
Define speed.
How fast something is moving, regardless of direction.
Define displacement.
How far an objects travelled from its starting point.
Define velocity.
The rate of change of an objects displacement.
Define acceleration.
The rate of change of an object’s velocity.
Average speed=
Total distance/Total time
Average velocity=
(u+v)/2
What is meant by “freefall”?
Am object undergoing an acceleration “g”
What is given by the gradient of a displacement-time graph?
Velocity.
Velocity=
Change in Displacement/Change in Time
What is given by the gradient of a velocity-time graph?
Acceleration.
How do you calculate the distance travelled from a speed-time graph?
Area under graph.
