Chapter 8 Flashcards
Porosity
Ratio of pore space in a rock to the bulk volume of that rock.
Permeabilty
Ease of which a fluid can pass through pore structure
Assumptions of Darcys Law
1- Steady state flow 2- laminar flow 3- rock saturated fully with one fluid 4- fluid does not react with rock 5- rock is isotropic
Fluid Saturations
When more than one fluid is present in the pores.
Capillary Pressure
Exists when two immiscible phases are present
Petroleum Definition
Mixture of naturally occurring hydrocarbons that can exist as a solid, liquid, or gaseous state.
Hydrocarbon Compounds
Alkanes - Saturated CnH2n+2
Alkene - Undersaturated CH
Cycloparaffins saturated single bond CnH2n
Non Hydrocarbon Compounds
Water, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide and sulphur
Gas Solubility
Rs, number of cubic feet of gas measured at standard conditions
Oil formation volume factor
Bo, Volume occupied by the oil between surface conditions and reservoir
Phase Behaviour
System- Amount of substances within given boundaries
Components- pure substances
Phases- Phases separated by definite boundaries ie ice liquid water vapour
Equilibrium - No changes take place.
Reservoir Classifications
Low Shrinkage
High Shrinkage
Retrogase condensate gas
Wet and Dry gas
