A
The intentional or unintentional transmission of meaning through an individual’s nonspoken physical and behavioral cues.

A
Verbal and nonverbal behaviors that convey contradictory meanings such as saying, “I’m so happy for you” in a sarcastic tone of voice.

Kinesics
A
Visible body movements. It involves most behaviors that we associate with nonverbal communication such as facial expressions, body postures, gestures, and eye contact.

What are the 8 principles of nonverbal communication
A
- Uses multiple channels (visual, auditory, and tactile)
- Is more ambiguous
- Has fewer rules (there is no grammer in nonverbal comm)
- Has more meaning than verbal
- Is influenced by culture (determines what is and isn’t okay
- Is influenced by gender
- Is liberated through technology (so many options)
- Nonverbal and verbal combine to create communication
