What is a case report?
describes one patient
What is a case series?
describes a group of individuals who have the same disease, disorder, or have undergone the same procedure
What is a case definition?
A list of the inclusion and exclusion criteria that must be met in order for an individual to be classified as a person with the disease of interest
What is a sign?
can be clinically proven - rash, cough, fever
what is a symptom?
a subjective indication of illness that is experienced by an individual but cannot be directly observed by others
What is an ICD code?
Diagnostic categorization based on the disease and related health problems
What is a CPT code?
the current procedural terminology codes published by the American medical association
How do you select relevant ppts?
the person, place, and time characteristics
How do you collect data?
Interviewing cases about their experiences using a questionnaire
What are statistical tests used for?
to compare subpopulations or before and after measures for the same individual participant when the sample size is sufficiently large
What is case fatality rate?
people with a particular disease who die as a result of that condition
What is a mortality rate?
percentage of members of a population who die from any condition
what is a proportionate mortality rate?
Deaths in a population during a particular time period that were attributable to the particular cause
